Safe Storage Solutions and Transport: Protecting Composite Materials from Climatic Damage

Safe Storage Solutions for Businesses

Safe storage and transport of composite materials can be a major headache for many businesses. One of the greatest challenges to protect against is climatic change. For example, when your products have to travel internationally on a freight ship overseas, they are more susceptible to damage from oxygen ingress and moisture vapor damage. Our superior barrier foil bags will help make sure that your products arrive without being compromised on the journey.

Barrier Foil Packaging for Safe Storage Solutions

Barrier foil packaging is the perfect solution for protecting your composite materials. A composite material is a material made up of two or more different materials whose physical structures complement each other. Thus, creating a material with physical attributes that are unlike the individual materials on their own. There are also pre-preg composites, which are typically fibers that are impregnated with resin.

Pre-preg composites cure and set hard when exposed to increased temperatures and the atmosphere. However, the end-user still needs the material to be pliable to mold them into parts. So pre-preg composites are typically stored in cooled areas and barrier foils to prevent reaction with the atmosphere and curing. These pre-pregs can then be molded by the end-user into parts for anything from automobiles to wind turbines as well as many other applications where a lightweight but incredibly durable material is required.

Barrier foils have the lowest transmission rates of any flexible material, meaning the outside atmosphere will not instigate curing. The aluminum in our laminates also offer thermal properties that help keep the composite materials cool during storage and transit. The low transmission rates of 3D Barrier Bags’ foil laminates also guarantee the composite material will not lose its retained moisture content and dry out.

Unique Solutions for Unique Products for Safe Storage and Transport

Here at 3D Barrier Bags, we recognize that your business requires a simple solution that guarantees your product will not be compromised once packaged. With this in mind, we’ve created barrier foil packaging solutions that are sure to deliver what you need and keep your materials in optimum condition.

The flexible nature of the material makes heat-sealing simple. Our chosen heat-sealing equipment has a jaw length of 12” and is compatible with all our barrier foil grades, offering the lightest in its class hand sealer to ensure bag integrity when sealed.

MIL-PRF-131K Class 1

3D Barrier Bags also have their own Mil-PRF-131K Class 1 Barrier foils, listed on the Naval lab’s Qualified Products database. We can manufacture lay flat and gusseted tubing from this foil, which is of particular importance for aerospace, military and aircraft applications. Guaranteeing a high standard of performance characteristics of the foil laminate for protection.

Here at 3D Barrier Bags, we are committed to short lead times and fast dispatch for your convenience. Everything is custom made to your requirements, and we offer a wide variety of foil laminates’ to suit any application.  We offer no minimum or maximum order size, making this an ideal choice for any size order. If you’re looking to protect your composite materials from climatic damage and curing, we’re sure to offer a solution that will perfectly fit your needs.
