Industry Game Changers
Prepreg carbon fiber materials (materials made from up or more different materials whose physical structures complement each other) have become an important part of our society. Everything from automobiles to airplanes, they have been game-changers for many industries. They rely on high strength-to-weight ratios like the aircraft, aerospace and architectural industries.
Carbon fiber is a pre-preg composite. This means the material is made from a lightweight material reinforced with polymer resins that harden after a curing process, thus offering the end-user incredibly strong (from the polymer resin) and lightweight material. Offering you a wide variety of uses!
The fibers are then chemically treated, heated, stretched and carbonized to produce the high-strength fibers. The binding polymer is often a thermoset resin (polymers that irreversibly harden or cure a soft, solid or viscous liquid) such as epoxy. These thermoset polymers harden or cure with heat or pressure. As you can probably tell, this can make the manufacturing process difficult at times. Once this curing process happens, the material cannot change. However, end-users of composite materials still need to mold the material into a variety of shapes before it sets hard.
Packaging Prepreg Carbon Fiber Shouldn’t be Hard
So how do you store or transport a material that could potentially be useless with elements such as heat, the atmosphere or pressure? For the resins to not set, you would need something with thermal properties and a low Oxygen transmission rate to postpone the curing process.
Aluminum barrier foil packaging offers thermal properties that will keep the materials cool during storage and transit. It also guarantees the composite materials will not be exposed to the atmosphere and set. Additionally, the aluminum layer in the packaging means our materials have the lowest transmission rate of any flexible material. This means that the curing agent will not be exposed to the atmosphere and set.
At 3D Barrier Bags Inc, we now have the capabilities to create lay-flay and gusseted tubing wound on a roll. This new option will give your packing teams the flexibility and ease to pack on time and properly. Since we can cut the rolls to your desired width, you can cut multiple-sized bags from one roll with ease and convenience.
