HOW IT WORKS
The medical machinery manufacturer packed the equipment in a barrier foil bag at their facility in the USA. The equipment was then shipped via Ocean freight for
6 -8 weeks to the final destination. During this time the container passed through varying climates, humidity, and temperature changes. The end user received the equipment still packed inside the wooden crate and barrier foil bag. The item was then removed from the crate and placed into storage still inside the barrier foil bag. The screw-in humidity indicator, visible from outside the bag, provided real-time monitoring of the internal relative humidity. If the humidity rose above 38% – the threshold where corrosion could begin – the indicator alerted the user to take action.
Maintenance Process:
Open the Bag: If humidity levels exceeded 38%, the user opened the barrier foil bag.
Replace the Desiccant: The desiccant was replaced based on the correct calculation as per British Standards. The integrity of the bag was also inspected.
Reseal the Bag: The bag was resealed, and the humidity indicator was adjusted to show the corrected humidity level.
This simple yet effective process allowed the end user to maintain the machinery in optimal condition, even in a non-climate-controlled environment.
