On April 30, 2001, the military packaging authorities replaced the long-standing military barrier bag spec – MIL-B-117 – with a new spec – MIL-DTL-117. These flat bags are the specification the government uses when it determines that an item must be shipped in a bag form. The flat bags must be water vapor proof, greaseproof, flexible and heat-sealable to be considered as Mil-DTL-117 bags. The bags must pass a variety of tests and must contain the following information printed on each bag in red, 10-point type:
The specification number & revision letter type
Class & Style
Bag’s manufacturer and bag designation
Month and year of the bag’s fabrication
These flat bags offer an ideal solution to any company looking to eliminate the possibility of corrosion damage during transport or storage. The use of Mil-DTL-117 bags can help eliminate traditional methods used in terms of the preservation of metal parts and help you reduce those costs that are associated with removing preservatives from metal parts.
